My blog entry for this date will be general observations of some interesting things that have come across my desk in the last few days that I’d like to pass on to you. I hope you’ll read to the end and read “The Principle Of The Garbage Truck.”

Partly because it is so closely related to transcription (or it could be), I’ve been interested in scrapbooking, but also partly because I like that sort of thing, although I’ve never had very much time to devote to it.

If you put together a scrapbook of family interest, one of the best things you can include is either an audio describing the pictures and events, or an audio and a transcription with a description. The latter really works well because it includes all of one’s modalities, hearing, seeing and reading.

See my blog entry about Christmas in August for an interesting idea for family Christmas gifts.

I ran across this web site in Woman’s World Magazine, the June, 2008, issue. It’s a website to create a virtual scrapbook where you can choose various backdrops, upload your own pictures and put together a very intriguing scrapbook on the Internet. You can then share it with others and it’s all free. The URL is www.scrapblog.com.

Another fun free website which I read about in the same magazine and which intrigued me for a while is the “virtual” makeover. You can go to www.taaz.com, upload a photo of yourself, then choose different hairstyles, cosmetics and eye colors. Once you’ve created your makeover photo you can e-mail to friends and family to get their opinion. It’s intriguing to try short hair, curly hair, dark eye shadow, different shades of lipstick, etc. Frankly, when I got through with what I created for myself, I liked the original me better.

What I really want to share is this bit of viral e-mail which came to me from a friend. It’s called “The Principle of the Garbage Truck.”

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches!

The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly.

So I asked, ‘Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!’ This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, ‘The Law of the Garbage Truck.’

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll dump it on you. Don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so…. ‘Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don’t.’ Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

That is so true. Now go out and make someone’s day a beautiful day, and don’t let anyone dump their garbage on you.

I won, I won. Oh, what a wonderful feeling.

I won the 1st Runner Up prize in the Better Your Best Contest sponsored by Internet Marketing Guru Armand Morin. Armand is the promoter for the Big Seminar which is the longest running Internet Marketing Seminar in the world. They have trained more people about Internet Marketing than any other seminar in the world.

They have a coaching group called AM2 which sponsors the Better Your Best contest. I entered that contest this year and won the 1st Runner Up prize of $3,000. I also got a laptop computer. Yeaaaa. The big prize was $25,000 which was won by fellow AM2 member, Mark Skaggs.

The prize was awarded at Big Seminar 11 in Atlanta, Georgia. This was my first time to attend Big Seminar and I learned that all the wonderful things I’ve been hearing about it are true. We were taught by such great trainers as Armand Morin, Matt Bacak, Jim Edwards, Ray Edwards, Tom Hua, Frank Kern, Brett McCall, Stu McLaren, Eric Graham, and Mike Stewart.

The members of AM2 were privileged to have a bonus day to have all our questions answered. Can you imagine being in a room with experts on marketing, copy writing, membership sites, Private Label Rights products, web site developers, conversion, product creation, opt-in pages, Google Ad Words, and so much more, and being able to ask and get answered, in depth, any question you have about Internet marketing? Not only to get it answered by one expert, but by many experts. This was what it was like at Big Seminar.

And it wasn’t only the educational sessions, it was the friends and networking/joint venture opportunities as well.

The next Big Seminar will be October 3, 4 and 5, 2008. Set your calendars now to make those dates available for Big Seminar 12.

Yesterday, I decided to do a current search on digital recorders and I learned some good news: We’re getting more and paying less. I did a search on Olympus and found that for the same amount we were paying a year ago, we are actually getting longer recording times.

Then I went to a couple of local sources for purchasing recorders and found out the same thing. It occurred to me that this is a new technology and that some of you may be a little wary of trying it. It’s kind of like going from the standard typewriter to the electric typewriter. It was new and we had a lot of new stuff to learn. Then again, when going from an electric typewriter to a computer. More new stuff to learn. And now along comes this new technology and there’s more stuff to learn.

Well, learning is good, isn’t it? I think so. I love to learn. I urge you to embrace this new technology. Using a digital recorder to record your information product, presentations or teleseminars, will allow you to finish your product in less than 25% of the time it would take you to type it yourself. If you get your audio transcribed, all you have to do is edit it and you can have your product completed in less than a week.

Here are some guidelines you should consider when purchasing a digital recorder:

1. You must be able to download your recording to your computer. Some of the less expensive recorders are not “downloadable.” You need to be able to transfer your recording through the Internet in order to send it to a transcription service or even if you want to transcribe it yourself.

2. Although most recorders come with internal microphones, it is best to have the capability to attach an external microphone. External microphones work better to record presentations or to record from a distance. Additionally, you can elect to use a lavaliere microphone for yourself and not be hampered with holding the recorder. Or, if you are recording more than one person, such as if you are interviewing someone, you can get an attachment which allows you to hook up two microphones.

3. The recorder should have at least four hours of available recording time using the high quality recording setting. You want to make sure the recorder has enough time to record a full presentation before having to be downloaded to the computer.

When I checked out the Olympus recorder on the Internet, I found a very good quality recorder for around $100.00. I also found that you could buy a similar model at Radio Shack in the Los Angeles area at the same price. Other locations such as Circuit City, Best Buy and Frys may also have them.

For those of you who live in the Los Angeles area, I found an Olympus and a Marantz at Samy’s Cameras which uses a flash card and can get you as much as 4G-8G of storage space. Both of these sell for just under $400.00. The Sony or the Edirol are also good recorders, and have similar capabilities and prices.

Buying a recorder is much like buying a blender or a computer. Although it’s wise to buy as much as your pocketbook allows, at the same time, you don’t need to buy more than you will use. Why spend the extra money.

A digital recorder is small and easy to use. On it you can record all of your information products, plus your presentations, blogs or articles.

So, go ahead, embrace this new technology. Since using a digital recorder to record your information product will save you so much time and get your information product to the market faster in order to make more $$$ for you, it makes sense. It’s just learning a new technology, like when we came from the standard typewriter, to the electric typewriter, to the computer. Learning can be fun.

The weekend of March 3, 4, and 5, I spent at a seminar here in Los Angeles. It was the Internet Marketing Explained seminar presented by Armand Morin.

The full title is “Internet Marketing Explained, The Most Comprehensive Course Ever Developed On Internet Marketing,” and it fulfills that billing extremely well.

The weekend was a busy weekend filled with education and the getting together of enthusiastic, dynamic people.

The course Armand presented is chock full with fantastic information. Every day as I continue to study it I find more and more helpful gems for marketing on the Internet. Just yesterday as I was studying about generating traffic to my site(s), I learned more about Meta Tags and Title Tags.

He gives examples and explains everything in detail. If you are new to Internet Marketing, you can easily find the answer to any question you have in IME.

If you’re more experienced, there will be plenty of details about every aspect of Internet marketing.

Armand is a master marketer. When he started in Internet Marketing, there were no others to whom he could ask questions, so he had to learn and innovate as he went along. Armand finds an answer to anything that puzzles him, and in IME, he’s passing along a lot of that information to us. You can be comfortable in knowing that he doesn’t pass along anything until he has tested it and knows for sure that it works.

I urge you to check out IME and consider adding it to your library. It will be like an encyclopedia to answering your questions on Internet Marketing. Click here to get full information.

If you’ve never used a transcription service, you may have questions about how it works, what you can expect from the service, how you contact them and what you will get back. In a recent interview I did with Yolanda McIntosh on Womens Radio, we covered that subject. You can listen to it at Womens Radio. In the interview we covered what “transcription” means.Basically, transcription is taking information from an audio and typing it or putting it into words onto a piece of paper that can be read.Perhaps you’ve seen on television assistants or secretaries in older movies taking shorthand. That’s the way I started. When I was in high school I learned how to do shorthand and then when I was in the work world, I would take shorthand from my boss and then I would transcribe it, type it into a letter or whatever the document was.

We’re much more sophisticated now, because we take the audio, an MP3 or WAV or whatever format you may have recorded it in, and with the software and equipment we have on our computer, we can transcribe your audio. Read more

You’ve not heard much from me recently, partly because I lost the use of my computer almost entirely for six weeks. I have often said that you could put me on a desert island and I would be okay as long as you also gave me my computer. At no time have I felt this to be more true.

This happened very close to the same time as the fires here in Southern California. Of course my computer crash pales in comparison to the problems faced by the fire victims in Southern California. However, these two events happening so closely together made me wonder: Exactly what are the steps one should take to prevent losing data either from a computer crash or because of a natural disaster?

You’ve heard me say it before, but I really believe that Teleseminars are probably the single most prolific product source you can do. In this article, which you can read at Teleseminars, I list at least 20 items which can be created from just one hour-long teleseminar. If you’ve done a telesmeinar yourself, you can probably add to that list.If you are interested in doing a teleseminar and wondering how to do it, please contact me at contactus@greattranscriptions.com. We are now providing packaged services such as helping you host your teleseminar, advice on a bridge line and recording, and providing you with the transcript. Even if you don’t have anyone attend your first few teleseminars you will have enough information for a product and a source for other uses.

To name a few of the things you can do with just one teleseminar: extract portions for articles, transcript for magazine or ezine articles, and of course, my favorite is to combine several teleseminar transcripts to become your book.

My friend Jeanette Cates also has a great product which shows you how to do teleseminars. I follow her tutorial when putting on a teleseminar. When Lynette Smith and I did our teleseminar on August 12, I followed Jeanette’s outline while conducting the interview. You can find out about that product at www.tele-basics.com.

For the novice, teleseminars are scary. I know they were (and still are to tell the absolute truth) for me, but it is a fear well worth conquering and with a little practice, you can do it. Have fun with it. Get a few friends together on a bridge line and see how easy it is and how much fun it is. Let me know how it goes.
